Our Story
Maurice and Janet Delage purchased the home half section (just north of Indian Head) in 1980, followed by the farmhouse and yard a few years later. The Delage family farm yard site was once part of the original Qu'Appelle Valley Farming Company, more commonly known as Bell Farm, that farmed 50,000 acres in the Indian Head area during the 1880s.
Maurice and Janet slowly grew the family farm while commuting from Regina on weekends with daughters Tracy, Cara, Aimee and son Marc in tow before eventually transitioning to farming full-time in 2001.
While the farm operations grew, Marc attended the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, where he met fellow student and future partner Janel.
Marc and Janel returned to the family farm in 2011 after obtaining degrees in Agribusiness (Marc) and Agronomy (Janel) and pursuing careers in the agricultural industry. Delage Farms had grown to approximately 20,000 acres during the first decade.
Today, the Delage family and a skilled, dedicated and committed staff share a passion for agriculture that continues to grow and evolve.
Our Team
Maurice Delage
Raised on the Delage family farm near Arborfield, Maurice enrolled in the University of Saskatchewan's College of Agriculture, graduating with a major in Horticulture in 1969 and an M.Sc. in 1978.
Maurice joined Hoechst in 1973 when the company introduced the first samples of Hoe Grass herbicide for field testing. Maurice became the General Manager of the agriculture business within the company.
During his tenure as CEO of Hoechst Canada, AgrEvo and Aventis CropScience (now Bayer CropScience), Maurice Delage was celebrated as an innovator, leader and builder.
With Maurice's leadership, Hoechst invested in a significant formulation facility in Regina and created the head office for the Agriculture Division within the city. As Hoechst changed to AgrEvo and then Aventis, Maurice became President and CEO of the company in North America.
In the late 80s, with the new non-selective herbicide called Liberty under development, Maurice persuaded the company to invest in a biotechnology research facility based in Saskatoon. Liberty went on to be the first genetically modified crop registered in Canada.
In 1996, due to Maurice's vision and belief in science and new technology, AgrEvo purchased PGS genetics. The resulting hybrid-genetic technology soon reached the market as InVigor canola, which accounted for more than half of the country's canola acreage.
After retiring from Aventis in 2001, Maurice began farming full-time and expanding the farming operation near Indian Head. If you find yourself at Delage Farms looking for Maurice, you can expect to find him driving the grid roads checking fields in the growing season, and driving a combine in the fall.
Janet Delage
Raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Janet can now be found driving between Regina and Indian Head, assisting the growth of the business and managing seeding and harvest meals with an experienced farm kitchen staff. Janet also organizes accommodation needs of employees and assists in planning of farm events. She especially enjoys supporting our families during the farm production season.
Janet earned a B. Ed from the University of Saskatchewan and enjoyed a career with the City of Regina as the Arts & Culture Supervisor while working to grow the family farm. Janet continues to serve on several community and provincial boards, including the board for the local Bell Barn Society of Indian Head. She was recently awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of her service to the province.
Janel Delage
Janel was born and raised on the Taylor family farm near Ridgedale, Saskatchewan, where she and her brother grew up helping their parents farm 3000 acres, growing various crops and raising pheasants.
Janel graduated with a B. Sc in Agronomy from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006. She immediately started working for Cargill as an Agronomist, becoming the General Manager of the Balcarres, Raymore and Wynyard locations in 2012. Janel won a Cargill President's Club award in both 2012 and 2014.
In 2014, Janel began transitioning from Cargill to working full-time on the family farm. Janel is Vice President of Delage Farms, manages the day-to-day operation, and is the lead agronomist.
Marc Delage
Marc was born and raised in Regina but split his youth between the city and the family farm, attending school in Regina but spending his summers on the farm. He graduated with a B.Sc in Agribusiness from the University of Saskatchewan in 2008 and took a position with Bayer CropScience that same year. Marc worked as a Territory Sales Manager West of Saskatoon for five years, eventually winning a Bayer Cross Award in 2009.
Marc left Bayer and returned to the farm full-time in August 2011 with his wife, Janel. Marc's enthusiasm for agriculture, community, and technology is as fundamental to Delage Farm as the land they work.
Marc was a very outgoing AgVocate who wanted to share his passion with the world. Marc's legacy and love for his family farm and the agricultural industry have inspired the creation of the Doolie Project, where the community is welcomed to engage in on-farm experiences and learn about the team, equipment and practices.
